The Speaker
Having served for more than two decades as a professor of computer science and of electrical engineering, her instructional odyssey is to “offer free in-person short-courses and workshops worldwide”. She not only taught in Stanford’s MOOCs, but also spent her 2016-2017 sabbatical year traveling the world to teach various computer science concepts in developing countries, including Colombia, Bhutan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Chile, Peru and Mexico.
Prof. Widom is a distinguished researcher in data and information management. We often utilize her course materials in our Advanced Database Systems classes for our undergraduate BS in Computer Science degree program. Her research in big data has started even before the term has gained grounds in the global computing research and industry arena.
